On behalf of Green Growth Leaders it is an honor and a privilege to extend an official invitation to “Take Lead” a conference on green growth October 12th-13th 2011 in Copenhagen. In particular we are inviting you to the workshop on “Sustainable Living in Buildings” on October 12th and to attend the conference on the 13th.
In recognition of your remarkable career, strong dedication and contribution to the sustainability agenda, we believe that your experiences would qualify the discussions at the workshop, which is attended by experts from around the world and hosted in cooperation with our Strategic Partner, VELUX Group. The overall aim of the workshops is to make the case for green growth. We want to document, demonstrate and communicate the benefits of green growth and the workshop looks at mapping the potentials of applying sustainable solutions in buildings.
Buildings are a great part of the global movement for a sustainable future. In the western world, we spend 90% of our time indoors, in buildings that account for 40% of our total energy consumption; and 30% of those buildings do not provide a healthy indoor climate, despite it being proven that mere light can improve school children’s performance by 15%.
This workshop will explore and map the potential in sustainable solutions in buildings, the economic output of sustainable technologies and solutions in buildings, and qualify the decisions made for the Copenhagen Charter for Sustainable Growth to be discussed on the high level roundtables on day two. Which new markets could spur from the need to improve energy efficiency and livability? Which new technologies could be employed? What visionary design is the way forward? How could the booming market be approached with green tech solutions for the building industry?
Take Lead The green growth economy will not just look “Like the fossil fuel economy but with a load of wind power”, as Green Growth Councilor, Lord Anthony Giddens, put it. Instead, it will create a technological and economic transformation much like the emergence of railroads or the Internet did. Remembering the effect American railroads, or the Internet, had on e.g. the book-, travel-, and media industry is the first step towards understanding the green growth economy. The railroad and internet economies were no more just about iron rail lines and microchips than the green economy is just about green electrons. Ahead of us lie entirely new ways of creating prosperity, employment and quality of life. For further information please see the Take Lead brochure
The outcome of “Take Lead” is presented to forums such as the European Commission, G20 and C40 and the findings of your work in the workshops will feed into an array of international forums, amongst those the EU Commissions work on climate change and green growth in the implementation of the EU 2020 strategy and beyond.
The event is hosted by Green Growth Leaders which include: Lord Athony Giddens, London School of Economics; Mr. Yvo de Boer, Special Global Advisor, KPMG; Dr. Soogil Young, Chairman, Korean Presidential Committee on Green Growth. Other participants include Ms. Connie Hedegaard, EU Commissioner on Climate Action; and Mr. Tom Murcott, Executive VP, Gale International.Richard Florida, Senior Editor, The Atlantic and Professor, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and best-selling Author of "The Rise of the Creative Class", " The Great Reset" and "Who's Your City?"; Jonathan Watts, Asia Correspondent, The Guardian and the best-selling Author of "When a Bilion Chinese Jump".
